Oh the Love!-Nursery Reveal

 I am proud to announce miss Aspen, our newest addition. Which makes 3 little princesses in our home. So, sorry that I've been AWOL for about a month now. I have been pretty busy with Christmas, being 9 months prego, having 8 house guests for over a week and then having and taking care of a precious new little girl. Phew makes me tired just typing it. But now we are back into our regular schedule and everyone is doing well.

I happy to say that she and I are very much enjoying her nursery. Decorating nurseries is my favorite! Such fun. And I just love how everything fell together so perfectly in this room, and for way cheap too. Here's a recap.

 I used the turquoise dresser I refinished forever ago as her changing table and dresser. (a $10 Craiglist steal)

 Above her dresser I dry brushed an old window and hung on a fabric bulletin board. Window was free on Craigslist and fabric bulletin board I found it at TJ Maxx for $10. Can't wait to add pictures and cute quotes. The butterfly is a $1 Walmart ornament.

 I also found this cute butterfly wall vinyl at Kohl's.

Which matches the scrapbook paper wall art above her crib perfectly.

 The bedding is Pottery Barn's Chloe- now discontinued. I found on ebay for $32 including shipping!!

I embellished the blanket with ribbon and rosettes. I also added these rosettes to the pillow sham.

 

Easily added the pink and turquoise ribbon with permanent fabric glue.

  I finished up the curtains which are just clearance sheets folded and ironed with ribbon sewn to the top. Sew easy. ;)

And you can't forget the beautiful $9 end table I refinished.

I am not the proudest of the big ugly recliner. But hey it is super comfy for middle of the night feedings, it rocks, reclines, is neutral and was only $28. haha

This room is perfect for me and baby. What do you think?

2x4 Snowman Family

 How cute is this wood block snowmen family? I made them yesterday on a whim, and the best part is that  I already had everything on hand. I got my idea from Crafty chic mommy, then gave it my own special touch.

How great would these be for gifts?

 Supplies needed:

• 2x4s or 2x6s
• paint stick or thin wood
• sandpaper
• white and orange paint, brown ink or paint
• buttons
• glue- I used my handy dandy hot glue gun
• ribbon for scarf
•  wood or something for hat

 To make these is pretty self explanatory. Cut wood, sand, paint white. I then inked the edges brown for a  more rustic look. Glue body together.

 

Then glue on your cutie accessories. The nose is a cut up paint stick.

 For the hats I used baseball bat end discards that I got from the Louisville Slugger Museum for FREE. But not everyone lives in good ol' Louisville. So you could use the end part of your paint-stick (where it is curved), smaller pieces of wood, or fabric to make your hat or go with out.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

 Well things are developing nicely in Baby Girl's room. No we still don't have a name for her yet. :( But here's what I have been working on.  I bought a the bumper crib skirt and small sham off of EBay. It is Pottery Barn's "Chloe". I love the colors in it and the price was right.

 

 

 When I got the bedskirt it just had the green ric rac on it. I spiced it up by adding the pink and turquoise ribbon with Jolene's permanent fabric glue. Yes it's washable! Very Easy!!

 

 I also added these rosettes to the pillow sham.

For the walls I simply framed some scrapbook paper, and I couldn't be happier with it! I love love love this!! It is colorful and fun and simple and modern and girly all wrapped up so beautifully.

I was planning on making a quilt, but laziness pregnancy got the best of me. Also I wanted to applique her name on it but since there is no name yet and I am too impatient to wait any longer I came up with this. I simply just used a store bought white silky/minky and added the ribbon and rosettes to match.

 I love how it turned out. Simple and sweet.

 I used the fabric glue to hold the ribbon in place (perfectly straight) then I sewed everything on.

 Only 8 more weeks and we will have another precious little girl to add to the house in her sweet little room.

Ohh I am having fun in this room. I have a great window and alphabet art to hang up above the changing table. I also want to make a cutie flower ribbon mobile, nursing cover, and car seat tent to match. We'll see if I get around to all that. Wish me luck on the curtains, hopefully they're next!

Book Pumpkins & Other Easy Halloween Decor

 Aren't these the cutest little Jack-o-lantern's you've ever seen? 

What a simple and cheap Fall/ Halloween decoration.

Book Pumpkins

1. First find an old book or pick one up from Goodwill for $.50.  Then mark 2 lines on the side.

 2. Make a mark in the center of the top too.

3. Start folding up the corners at right angles. I did 3 pages at a time then separated.

4. After separating ink the ends, and paperclip the "end" pages together to keep it "round".

5. Cut your jack-o-lantern face and tape on and decorate the top with leaves jute berries or whatever you have! Wah lah- a free/ cheap Halloween decoration!
You can also make a taller skinnier cylinder one by folding the pages right in half. You can also remove the face for fall decor. :) P.S my book was small, probably 4x6 and 200 pages.

And here's a few other cute easy Halloween ideas.

• A friend gave the the bottle of Candy corn and I thought it would just be cute as a decoration. 
• I also love my calendar blocks and Scentsy wrap.

•  Try painting some terra cotta pots for a cute candy dish and decoration. These pots are only about $.25 each.
• And what's a Holiday post without mantel decorations? Here's what I did this year.

•  I made a makeshift wreath holder out of wire. I then sewed a straight line down the edge of a 3 x 24 inch piece of fabric for this festive wreath holder cover. "Sew" easy cheap and cute. My kinda craft.

2 Great Recipies!!!

I'll plain out say it. I am not a cook. That is why I love these recipes and am sharing them with you. If I can do it, anyone can. They are easy, fool proof and cheap. :)

The first one is a family favorite from my MIL. It has gotten rave reviews from my friends. We made this caramel popcorn yesterday for a snack and I ate so much I wasn't hungry for dinner. :) You've had your warning.

CARAMEL POPCORN
1 stick margarine
2/3 cup corn syrup (can use pancake syrup too)
3/4 cup brown sugar

Boil for a minute. Pour over popped popcorn about 1 1/2 cups of seeds popped or 2 large bowls. Makes a "soft" caramel popcorn. Add some candy corn, M&Ms or red hots for an extra holiday kick to it. Makes a great Family Home Evening treat or neighbor holiday gift.


This Bread Machine Cinnamon roll recipe I got from Money Saving Mom, a great couponing website. Pretty easy, no rising time needed and super yummy!

Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls

Dough:
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm milk
3 tablespoons canola oil- (I used veg oil)
1 egg, lightly beaten plus 2 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Filling: (this is my version a little beefed up)
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup brown sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Icing:
1 teaspoon milk
1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
4 tablespoons (or less) butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla

Put the dough ingredients in the bread machine in the order listed and run on the dough cycle. After the dough cycle is finished, roll the dough into a large rectangle and spread it with butter and filling mixture.

Roll up and cut into 10-15 rolls and place in two greased round cake pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes or until browned. Spread the icing on as soon as they come out of the oven. You can even freeze the second pan. But you'll probably just want more the next day. :)

From Brass to Class

I picked up this goodie at a garage sale for one whole dollar! I knew that with a little tlc she could be beautiful.
I got out my trusty Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and went to town.

Ahh much better. Now she just needs a pretty shade.
I found this shade over the summer at a flea market for $7. Looks perfectly new too. :)
And here she is in her new found glory.
She looks much more expensive than $8 right. :)
She adds so much to this little table and seating area.
There is now height and a beautiful and functional focal point.

Fabric Pumpkins- Ohh the Options!

I don't know about you but I love decorating for fall because you can leave the decorations up for so long.
SO today I will show you how to make these cutie fabric pumpkins!

With all your fabric options your possibilities are endless!

A great thing is they are easy and cheap. No sewing machine required!

You can even make pink pumpkins for your little girls room. :)
So turn on your Scentsy with some pumpkin pie scent invite a friend over for 2x the fun and get craftin!!
Supplies:

• about 1/2 a yard of fabric will make about 3 pumpkins. One Papa one Mama and one baby sized.
• leaves to match your fabric
• DMC Embroidery Floss/ needle
  
• a BUNCH of plastic grocery bags. (for the stuffing)
• Jute twine/ pencil
  
• glue gun/ glue sticks
• Sticks cut to about 4 inches
• rubber bands/twisty ties (an easy option)
  

Steps

1. Wrap jute around pencil, bake at 300 for 5 minutes. let cool for 5 minutes. you know it's done when it gets stinky. ;)
   

2. Cut your fabric into 3 different sizes. one large about 16x30, medium about 10x22, small about 8x20. These are just guesstimates. Every pumpkin of mine is different which makes them all unique.
3. Fold the fabric in half with fold on short side. So if you are doing a large folded it would measure 16x15. Glue along edge with fabric right side facing in, like in picture.

4. Gather bottom of fabric. Tie with rubber band, twist tie or sew shut. I ran out of twisties and rubber bands. :< 5. Turn right side out and stuff with plastic bags until really full. (so that later when you do the lines with the embroidery floss it will poof.)
6. Put a stick in the top and stitch around top of fabric and gather.
7. With a long piece of floss tie a double knot in one end and stitch the lines from top to bottom going opposite of each other. Do 6 lines.
8. Glue on your leaves and jute, and secure stick with glue as well. And Wah lah you have a gorgeous little pumpkin!
This is a fun project to do with friends and make a little collection of pumpkins. I have been making these guys with friends for 5 years now. Fun every time.
