A $9 Chair Redo

I found this great chair at Goodwill a few weeks ago and snatched it up for$9. I was itching for a nice day and a sleepy baby. The planets aligned and I got to bring life back to this now beautiful chair.

Ten points to the person who can find the banana sticker. :)

Here are some beautiful details.
I spray primed, and spay painted this piece. I then glazed to bring out those yummy details. To finish it off I recovered the seat with a canvas material.

Washer and Dryer Stand Reveal

Being very pregnant and tall it was getting pretty hard bending over and over to do laundry. I have seen some ladies in blogland build a Washer/dryer stand before and thought we could tackle it too. So I had my wonderful hubby build one for me and oh do I love it.
Things I love about it:
  •  Well of course it looks so much better. :)
  • 18 inches off the ground is so much easier on me.
  • It was so cheap to build- 2x4's, plywood, trim, screws, nails, paint and primer, and 2 L brackets is all you need.
  • It hides laundry baskets, trashcan, and our big ol honkin shoe basket. So it clears up a bunch of floor space and the laundry room looks a lot cleaner.
  • Oh and I love that the baskets can sit on the ground and easily slide in and out.
  • The space on the side is perfect for my laundry supplies, and looks a lot better than on top of my washer.
  • It is totally sturdy, no shaking or anything. Very pleased about this since it is our own design.

And other laundry room news... this is also our mudroom right off the garage, so we throw our coats and shoes in here. I added these hooks for easy hanging.

On the left is our family growth chart.

I simply measured and marked the wood board and stamped on the numbers.
Then added the flowers which were like 50 cents at a craft store.

Washer and dryer stand tutorial coming soon!
I took pictures of the process and would love to share it with you!
So be sure to follow me and stay tuned. :)

$9 End Table Makeover!

I found a great table at Goodwill for $9 I knew it would look great in the new nursery. There is no real before of it because it was when I lost my battery charger.oops. But I found a similiar before end table on the web.

Before: (kinda)

and after:
Isn't she beautiful?
Isn't it amazing what a little primer paint and glaze can do?
From 70's drab to Fab!
I won't show you the ginormous recliner, because honestly 4 in the morning feedings it is all about comfort.
Anyways what do you think? Totally worth $9 right? :)

A post worth waiting for!!

Ok sorry everyone. I lost my camera battery charger so I haven't been able to post in a while but I found it and an able to post again. YAY!
I have been keeping busy with projects. Here is the rundown of what I've been doing for the past few weeks. Hope it was worth the wait!!
  • I refinished my long dresser-now buffet. Painted bottom black, refinished/re stained the top, and raised it 3 inches.
  • Painted big mirror over buffet.
  • Accessorized dining room.
  • Painted office a blue gray.
  • In the process of painting futon (ran out of paint)
  • Rearranged office furniture.
  • Started nursery bedding. Found a Pottery Barn set on Ebay, and I an going to embellish it with more ribbon and make the quilt.- Oh and I got a new sewing machine!! Double yay!
  • Bought, painted, and glazed end table for nursery. Soo gorgeous!!
  • In the process of putting beadboard in our family room bookshelves.
Phew. So I am going to take this in strides and show you my new dining room/buffet today. :) You'll have lots to look forward to within the next few days.

Now on with the pictures! Before with no bench and a much too big armoire.
Also see(Craigslist table and chairs $50) and (reupholstered chairs)
Before with turquoise dresser. It so was not long enough! (Now it's a pretty changing table.)
Replacement dresser and mirror before I painted them:

Found on Craigslist for$30
Bored of the before's already?! Give me some good pictures!
Drum roll please- here are the afters!
See those legs? Funny story. I raised the buffet 3 inches by adding baseball end caps from the Louisville Slugger baseball museum. They are the leftover wood on the end of the bat after they carve the bat out. They were free and had tons of them- I knew they'd come in handy. :)
Long dresser and mirror fit much better here.
I decided to go a little more sophisticated with the black bottom and stained top.

Made the bench from scratch.
I love to decorate this during holidays.
Anyone up for a pinecone cocktail?
Found this silver tray at Goodwill for $2. Whoot whoot!
Oh and one more thing we use this dining room as my girls coloring/ craft room. The dresser has plenty of drawers and everything was so inexpensive anyways. They hop up on the bench and color away. I LOVE that it is getting used so often.
Oh did I mention that this ENTIRE dining room only cost around $200! Oh yeah.
Stay tuned for a bunch more exciting projects!!
Will it be the office, nursery or beadboard book shelves?

Kitchen Chairs!

So I have had my kitchen chairs painted now for about a month, but they wore me out so bad I am just now feel like posting about them. :) So here is my table and chairs, finally done.
I borrowed my friends paint sprayer thinking it would be fairly easy, like a can of spray paint right?...well it wasn't easy. A paint sprayer is much heavier and finicky than a can of spray paint. But it produces beautiful results, very nice and even, in the exact color you want, and is cheaper than buying a zillion cans of paint. And I can't even imagine trying to paint all those spindles using a brush!
I followed the basic steps- 1-2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint, distressing, glaze, and polyurethane. Ah it makes me tired even typing out all those steps. I posted step by step instructions on the table transformation found here.
A few tips on using a paint sprayer:
-you have to thin the paint A LOT!!!!!!
-because the paint is thinner, it applies thin coats- so be patient.
-it dries a little faster because it is thinner :)
-your forearm will get tired- because the sprayer is heavy.-nice workout
-cover everything!!- my garage floor is a little splotchy now :)

More creamy goodness.
And on another note... I got some vinyl for my picture gallery/ kiddie table wall. Only $8 after I used my Kohl's $10 giftcard I got in the mail.
Finally complete... until I change my mind. :)

The custest little thing ever!

I love the way this turned out!! And it was so easy. It is so bright and fresh now!! What a difference paint makes.
First I scrubbed the grime off the old table and chairs then painted on 2 coats of primer. My daughter loved helping me with this.
This is what the table and wall looked like before.

I used spray paint for the chairs. Krylon is rolled back at Walmart for only $2.67 a can now. ;) The yellow is called Bright Idea.
Cherry Red for this one.
I used my lovely turquoise blue for the table and polyied over everything!
My girls love it just as much as I do! It's like she's hugging the table. :)

We are in the process of finishing up the bead board behind here. I also plan to put a picture/gallery wall above the bead board.
